that many Licensed Massage Therapists are familiar with but rarely stop to explain.
What exactly does it mean for clients? That is who truly needs to understand the meaning.
When I'm out marketing people often tell me that they have never received professional massage. When I ask them why, their usual response is, “I'm not comfortable getting undressed.” Most are often surprised to find out that there are many massage techniques that can be done while the client is fully clothed.
Acupressure can easily be done while staying dressed. I would recommend that a client dress as though they are going to work out or do yoga. Staying fully clothed makes acupressure much easier to do for the therapist. It means that we don't have to worry about making sure the drape stays in place while we work. It allows us to incorporate stretches into our routine which will afford the client greater range of motion in their joints. Acupressure is also great for those new to massage or individuals who don't like deep pressure. For a first time massage experience, I would highly recommend this treatment and its many benefits.
Even for therapeutic or sports massage staying fully dressed can be a great option. This allows the therapist to again work with the client's range of motion in joints. Passive, active and resistive movements can easily be done without worrying about the drape sliding or not staying tucked in place. Thai massage is a great example of this work. Thai massage has also been called “Lazy Mans Yoga”. How can this be of benefit to the client? Well you dress like you would for a normal yoga session and just lay there and focus on deep calming breaths while the therapist uses palm presses, thumb presses and a series of stretching to open up the flow of energy through the body. Anyone who's ever been to yoga has experienced the difficulty in knowing how to stretch into the breath or hold a pose for maximum benefits. A Licensed Massage Therapist can have the client breath into a stretch while the client lays passively on the table or mat. A trained professional massage therapist can tell where the joints end motion is and hold it at its maximum lengthened state while facilitating further range of motion with breathing and proper stretching.
Massage has a long list of benefits for all ages and body types. Take the leap and reap the benefits for yourself while staying completely comfortable during the session by staying fully dressed.
