This session is very similar to the other massages we offer. The difference is that when we find different areas of your body in holding patterns that are causing pain, we pull out whatever tools we deem necessary to get you the Maximum Pain Relief that we can achieve in that session.
Why is 70 minutes such a good time frame to consider? When we have to do Deep Tissue massage to release Trigger Points, Knots, etc. these techniques take time to reap the maximum benefits of the treatment. Those areas need to have a sustained compression to bring in new blood and oxygen to the area and to also help the fascia bonds to release. A 50 minute session usually only allows enough time for a very targeted treatment on one specific area of the body. However, usually when your body is in a pain/spasm/pain cycle, other areas of the body can be causing a postural/muscular distortion that is creating the pain where you feel it.
Example: You feel pain in your upper back and shoulders, you are also feeling some pain at times in your lower back. What you may not realize is that this can be caused by tight pecs in your chest pulling your shoulders forward and cutting off healthy blood flow to the muscles in your back and shoulders. What happens to a rubber band when you pull it? It loses its color and becomes very pale right? Now imagine your back muscles being pulled and stretched forward, same concept, lack of color due to poor blood and oxygen circulation to the muscles. The body's response is pain because they are being literally strangled.
What kind of tools do we pull out when we find the hot spot (knot, trigger point, adhesion, etc.) that is causing pain and usually referred pain in your body? Well we have several tools at our disposal. One is cupping, our cups that we are currently using are silicone. These silicone cups are slightly different than the glass or hard plastic cups that are being used to cause "bruising" in athletes. They both have their health benefits for the muscles, however we are not looking to cause anyone bruising intentionally during one of our session at this time. The soft silicone cups are also useful for working over bony surfaces that my have adhesions needing to be released with no discomfort. Other tools include fascia blasting, fascia blasting is essentially foam rolling on steroids. It is a quick and relatively painless way to quickly achieve myofascial release in those areas that are bound and provide you with a lighter feeling and helping to relieve those areas that are 'pulling' on other areas of the body when you reach or bend. We have other tools at our disposal from continuing education courses that are designed to achieve the best benefits for pain reduction such as knobbles, thumb savers, tennis balls, frozen roller balls, etc. that can hold sustained compression on the "hot spot" with consistent pressure until a release or softening is achieved.
And we end every one of these sessions with an application of Maxx Pain Relief Creme to those areas that received deep and specific work. This is a medical grade topical application that uses a blend of essential oils to get deep into those muscles and increase circulation and a cooling session that interrupts the pain/spasm/pain cycle that your body is experiencing. This creme is also useful in reducing the after affects that may be felt such as a tender/bruised feeling that is healing in the fact that its new blood and oxygen that are circulating in that specific area and showing you that your body is healing itself. You may still feel slightly sore after such a targeted treatment for a couple days after but this is easily handled with the application of ice or some ibuprofen if needed. The benefits are worthwhile when you can bend and more easily touch your toes or reach for that glass on that high shelf and not feel a twinge in your lower back.
